Configure for federated search: Configure federated repositories, configure local host.
Home > Query by Keyword.
Select one-or-more federated repositories for federated search.
Enter zero-or-more-terms.
Submit search.
Review results.
NOTES:
If a search result does not provide any records, it can be due to the following possible reasons:
Federated search is not yet configured properly remotely or locally.
The federated data provider repository has no records at all (and thus can't return any for any query).
Records exist for searching, however none of them matched the existing search terms.
Notice that all the records were retrieved from the remote repository which was configured for federated search.
In this case, we configured our own system to act as that repository.
This allowed us to demonstrate another important aspect of remote searches: they use a system account.
So, the degree of access (or restriction) that any user has through federated searches with other respositories is based upon the access/restrictions of the account through which the searches are run.
Only a single search application may be registered/configured per repository. Thus, the account/restrictions selected apply to all users who use that search mechanism.
Also, when searching, one may have many registered remote repositories and may select some or all of them (as well as the local one) during searches.
Results are returned by repository.
